Navy on Nicholson

The Story

Navy on Nicholson happened long before In the Nest, but deserves an honorable mention since it was the catalyst for the company’s founding (read more about how we came to be here!). Navy on Nicholson was Mackenzie’s first house. She purchased the home while in college and got a crash course in all things renovation when she gutted it before moving in. Nothing was left untouched and it really was a perfect starter house. She planned on staying there for a few years, but life had other plans. Only a few months after hanging the last piece of art on the wall, she sold it for a crazy profit and moved to a bigger house across the street. It was a lightbulb moment for sure!

The Design

Since Navy on Nicholson was Mackenzie’s personal home and not a planned flip house, the budget allowed for some really fun design choices. The house started as a neglected, dated blank slate without much character. Mackenzie used modern lighting and plumbing fixtures to give the house a mid-century modern feel. She added character with red oak floors, marble look tiles, and a mix of antique and new furniture. The buyers loved the design so much, they ended up buying nearly every piece of furniture and decor with the house!
